Hutton Named Preseason All-CIAA, Women’s Basketball Picked to Win Northern Division – BSU Bulldogs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its preseason picks for the 2021-22 women’s basketball season and the Bowie State University women’s basketball team was predicted to win the Northern Division and finish second in the league standings as senior Talanya Hutton was the lone Bulldog named to the All-CIAA Preseason Team.

Bowie State finished 25-5 overall and 12-3 in the CIAA during the 2019-20 season while also reaching the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season under the leadership of head coach Shadae Swan who will enter her seventh season at the helm of the Bulldogs program beginning 2021-22.

Hutton, a native of Seat Pleasant, Md., earned All-CIAA Preseason recognition after a solid 2019-20 season where she posted 11.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per outing. Additionally, she made the CIAA All-Tournament Team during her junior year campaign.

Fayetteville State topped the Bulldogs in the 2019 CIAA championship game as they were picked to repeat as conference champions with eight first place votes. Bowie State recieved two first place votes.
